Video Poker is a popular game that is able to be bet on in casinos around the world, or in your house on your PC, through an Internet connection. The rules are very simple and involve the player trying to get the greatest combination of cards as you can in order to win cash. On this account it’s very similar as a regular game of poker, minus the involvement with any other players. Of course, techniques employed during a real-life game of poker, such as tricking, will be irrelevant here.
The game of Electronic Poker starts when the bettor inserts credits (either tokens, tickets or cash) into the video poker machine and presses the deal button. A five card hand will then be electronically ‘dealt’ on the video screen.
The Video Poker machine also has buttons with ‘hold’ written on them, and gamblers will need to now decide which cards to hold and which to discard. For the cards the gambler wishes to retain, the ‘hold’ buttons must be pressed so that they light up. The player can decide to keep any amount of cards they wish, whether it’s all or none.
After the bettor has chosen which cards he wishes to keep, the player will then press ‘deal’, at which point any new cards will be given out if desired. The round is now completed, with the Electronic Poker machine analyzing the hand to see if it is the same as any of the winning hands shown on the pay out schedule.
Generally, the minimum succeeding hand on an Electronic Poker machine is a pair of jacks with the prize money growing for each better hand. A list of common winning hands begins with jacks or better, and moves on to 2 pairs, three of a kinds, straights, flushes, full houses, 4 of a kinds, straight flushes and last but not least royal flushes. It is obvious that the payment schedule can range from machine to machine, so that knowledgeable gamblers are agile enough to select the most money-making machine every instance.
As soon as the initial round has finished, the player can either choose to stay on and try to to maximize their earnings, or press the ‘collect’ button to retrieve any credits that have been won. Further, a few versions of the game allow the gambler an opportunity to double their wins, in which situation another game is played. There are also differences between individual games, with some decks of cards including wild cards and other varying characteristics to enhance playability.
